Rocky Mountain

Alright, I cant remember everything that happened so I wont be posting about everything. Here's what I will will blog about though, and in this order, HI (humorous interp), in between rounds, and my final debate round.

First I'd like to say that I made it to finals in HI, I didn't win a trophy, but I still made it to finals!!! My HI was called, "Bonnie and Clyde Agency For the Unemployed Underworld" By Bill Majeski. It was such a fun one to do, although not the funniest. The thing I did best with it was the voices. Everyone loved how I could change my voices in different ways. I don't know which voice they liked best, Bonnie or Clyde. At the end of one of my rounds one judge asked me what my real voice sounded like! I thought it was kind of funny. To close my HI part of the post I'd like to say if anyone that I know is reading this blog, ask me to do my HI for you sometime and I will, it's so fun to do.

In between rounds, when the debaters can have a break from debating...
We never stop debating, in between rounds, we find random topics to debate about. The most debating started when me and my partner had a bye.
First I'll explain what a bye is. A bye is when you and you're partner don't have to debate because your opponent didn't show up. Now to continue.
When we have a bye...
Me and my partner got very, very, very bored. So we started talking. What did we talk about? Who's last name is more awesome. We argued until some of our other fellow debaters came bye. Then one of the guys got a piece of paper and went around asking random people what they thought. My name won! :D Then we made some new topics, Batman or spider-man, ninja or samurai, coke or pepsi, and finally which color is more manly pink or purple? the winners were, batman, ninja, pepsi, and purple!!!!

During our last round the judge gave us an oral critique. Which was really good, because i learned something new. I learned that Contention 1: topicality is the most important one to defend. It is what most judges judge on. SO if you dont have topicality then you basically LOSE. Scary, huh?

That's all I have for now, come back for more, later.

watching a debate

Just yesterday I went to watch a debate. While I was the I decided that I'm not going to do policy, but stop trying to see what happens next. You'll see when I get to it.

First, I had to get up at 6:15 am. AM!! Can you believe that? Then once I was ready we (me and my mom) had to go to pick up a friend. After we had picked him up we arrived a HALF HOUR EARLY!!!! Can't believe that. Fortunately I brought my little brother's DS.

When we got on the bus me and my buddy...for security reasons and because some people don't like other people to give out their names on the internet I'll refer to him as Freddy joe...sat together and played the DS and talked. I had brought, for lunch a big bag of doritoes, two sodas, a lunchable, pears, and some granola bars.

When we arrived at the school (am I moving too fast for you? well that's because I can't remember all the little details and don't talk as much as my big sister) we all were split into groups and assigned a varsity member to follow around. After every round we would switch varsity members.

The debates were not at all how I imagined them to be. I imagined them to be with two or three adult judges, a crowd of people, and in an auditorium. Instead they had one judge who was our age, in little classrooms, and the only people who were watching were any novice. Parents could go and watch if they wanted to, but I didn't see any.

The first debate that I watched was LD, Lincoln-Douglas. It wasn't an intense round or anything. It was actually kind of boring. But I still liked it. The round just went back and forth. One person talking, then next asking questions then responding, etc. The judges also aren't supposed to tell you who won, or how you did. You find that out from your coach on the way home.

In between rounds there's about ten, twenty minutes before the next one starts. We ate and stuff during that time.

The second debate I went to was PF, Public Forum. It was better than the first round. This one I found out that during cross-examintation you are not allowed to explain things unless you have been asked a question. This one girl from my school kept asking her opponent "are you asking a question?" and then he;'d be like, "oh yeah, sorry." it was kind of funny. :D

In between this round and the third I ate most of my food.

The third round was a policy debate. I couldn't stand the judge. When he entered the room and the debater asked his paradime (sp?) he said something along the lines of, "I don't give a *beep* about that kind of *beep* You guys can just *beep* do whatever you *beep* want to. and I also don't *beep* care if you curse." Then he seemed to be flirting with the two girls on the opposite team. And at the end of that debate he said that the two girls won. In my oppinion they had some pretty weak arguments. They were talking all about the internet. "we need to give people in poverty free internet and free computers." What?! how will that help them get out of poverty? And my side proved them wrong.

That was the last debate I watched because I was late to the last one. That was how my day went. I'm having a debate that I will actually compete in on Saturday, so I'll post about how it went.

Debates

Quick post and update on my debate class. We have started in class debates and have finished only two of them. Each debate takes about two days and maybe half of another. Both times the negative side has won. I hope that when it's my turn to do it I win.

Also, my first debate is on the 31st. I'm so nervous. I'm going to go and watch the varsity debate on the 24th though. I have to be at the school around 6:30 am for the debates though. :P How horrible, especially since they're on saturday's. Well, time for bed. Good night peoples.

school

On monday we're going to start having in class debates to prepare for our first debate on the 31st. I'm so nervous and excited. We're debating poverty at the moment, and I have almost completed mine. I'm about half way finished. My teacher says that one debate will probably take up the whole class period. I'll put my debate up after monday.

I'd also like you guys to pray for my friends that I sit with at lunch time. They've got some really bad lives and none of them are Christians. So, if you'd pray for them that would be great. Thanks

Debate class

In my debate class (I haven't told you I'm in a debate class at school have I? Well now you know) we have been discussing poverty. Me and two or three other people believe we should help those in poverty, the rest of the class is against it. They think we should stop helping them, force them out of the country, and even kill them......maybe use what Hitler used to get rid of them. They also say we shouldn't help other countries with wars and other stuff until we have helped ourselves and gotten out of debt. Right now we are learning how to debate. We are all writing debates on poverty, unfortunately for me I'm sick. And they're due tomorrow. I hope I get better before then. My first real debate will be either October 17 or 30. I'm really excited about it.

Every morning while the teacher is taking role she puts a quote on the whiteboard and then we write down what we think about it. We have only three minutes to copy down the quote and write our thoughts. Then she picks five people to go up and tell the rest of the class their thoughts. That person has only three minutes to tell their thoughts and answer questions, then the next person goes. I'll tell more about the debates in another post.

homeschoolers

This post is for home schoolers

I was visiting a home school co-op that I used to go to, and I went to a debate class with one of my friends. As we were sitting there the teacher was saying how homeschoolers are lucky because they are smarter, and better than publicschoolers. Then my friend told the teacher that I was a publicschooler. I've been thinking about what she said and I know notice something that I never noticed when I was home schooled. A lot of homeschoolers think they're better than publicschoolers and smarter. They have this prideful and holier than thou attitude. It's funny, I never noticed that when I was homeschooled. I wonder if I said anything like that, or thought anything like that. That is no way for a Christian to act, a lot of homeschoolers that say these things have probably never experienced public school and they just go by what they hear.

A lot of Christians also wont go to public school because they believe it's evil and they'll be surrounded by fools. When Jesus came to the earth He was surrounded by fools, but he came to die on the cross so that we may have salvation and be free from sin. He also told us to preach the good news to all creation. (Acts 1:1-8)

I also think I have found why people buy all the evolution and stuff that public school teaches. The reason is because there aren't enough Christians there. There are a lot of Mormons, but not enough Christians to tell why public schools are teaching the wrong things. And we cant do that by staying home all day, sometimes we have to go to places that will give us hard trials and trust that the Lord will help us.

To tell you the truth, public school isn't really that bad. It really just depends on the school you go to.

To end I want to tell you, for those of you who are, stop having your prideful and better than you attitudes. It doesn't help anything, except for make the public schoolers feel like Christians aren't very nice people. God also tells us not to have those kinds of attitudes, but to love others and treat them as you would have them treat you.

best day of school

Today was the best day of school. during science we went to a different class, a funner class. The girl that tried to flirt with me wasn't there today. She's been trying to get me to "fall" for her ever since she's seen me. I dont think she's used to guys not responding to her. Anyways, I also made some friends. Kind of. We played tag after lunch. Tag is a fun game, it's not only for little kids. We finished math early, and all of my classes have been really easy. That's all for now. Adios.

homeschoolers

EDIT: Alright, now I'm going to talk about all these crazy ideas that home schoolers have about public schoolers.

Now, have you ever heard those home schoolers who say public school is a place of the devil? That if you go to public school you're going to lose your salvation? I have. And already I'm losing my salvation.........ok, just kidding. Actually I think public school has been helping me a lot more than home schooling would, but I'll get back to this part later. Anyways, a lot of Christians say that you shouldn't go to public school, or you'll be surrounded by fools. So non-believers are fools? Even if that's not what they meant, that's what it looks like they're saying. What will happen if every Christian stops going to public school? Those non-believers are going to take into the lies of public school like evolution, Mormonism (Latter-day Saints), that it's not wrong to say the F-word, and much more. No one will ever witness to these people. Now I will admit that most of the people talk about things that I wont mention, but I still think public school is good. Why do homeschoolers say things about public school? Probably because they've never gone, and they just go by what they hear. They believe everything their parents tell them, everything their church tells them, their friends tell them things. Public school helps prepare a person for the world. When you graduate and you're on your own you'll encounter the things that you'll see at school, and you wont be ready for it. You may even encounter worse things.

I'll do the ideas of a public schooler later. Some of them are true btw.

third day of school

well, I guess I should tell you more. I lied....I do have History! Just found out yesterday. I like my history teacher, although during class he just talked about his experiences in school when he was younger. Today was my first day getting food from the cafeteria. It's actually not as bad as all those comic strips make it seem. It's not as good as some places, but it's still good. Now the hallways.....If you've seen the comics, well they aren't exaggerating, in fact they aren't even showing what it's really like. I mean, wow! That was crowded. Tomorrow I might have my first math test. I'm kind of nervous. Well now let's talk about the things I've seen and heard. I've heard the F-word, the S-word, the B-word, and a lot other words. Guys and girls were flirting. No one's aloud to hold hands, kiss, or any of that stuff, but flirting.....everyone does that. Hate to say this, but I had one girl try flirting with me, I ignored her.

Well end of post. Saturday or Sunday I'll try to write another post. But this one is going to be on all the crazy and wacky ideas that home schoolers and public schoolers have about each other.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well today was the first day of school. No homework today. It went well, I've already figured out who my favorite to least favorite teachers are. My gym teacher is my favorite, he seems like one of those guys who jokes around. He's stern but not too stern, and he can keep the class under control. He says that he doesn't like to yell at the class (like some teachers do). I don't have history. It's so sad :( . History is my favorite class. My favorite class is.......I have no idea. They didn't really do anything in the classes and today was a half day. Well That's all I have to say for now, I'll write more later.

School

I've been home schooled for about four or five years now, but tomorrow I'm going to public school. I'm excited and nervous. I've actually gotten kind of bored with home school. After I've gone to public school for about a week, I'll tell you more.
