Once again I am going to talk about the subjects of Christians, home school, and public school. Why do I keep going on about this topic? The reason is because this is one of the best ways for us kids to witness to other people. By being at public school we can witness to others. And either you or your parents are holding you back from going, because you have all these evil and scary thoughts about it. I want to tell you that it really depends on what school you go to. You can go to a school with gangsters, drugs, and police all over the place, or you can go to a good school. Some of us choose to go to a good school and witness to people, and then there are those who go to bad schools so they can witness to the really bad people, and then there are those who decide to stay at home because they're scared.
As I look around my school I see Mormons, Atheists, and people who say they're Christians but really aren't. I've seen all kinds of people, but so far I haven't met a true believer, not one. The are about five Mormons in two of my classes, and I don't mean five total, but five in EACH class. I still can't believe that there are no Christians so far. Where are they? I'll tell you where they are. They're in their houses doing school there, and learning more about the Bible. What they should be doing is learning more about the Bible and telling others about it. I don't think it's very easy to witness to people in public school when you stay away from it and act like you're better than people in public school.
Please know that this post is not trying to attack those of you who can't go to public school. I'm also not trying to say that everyone should go to public school, I think it's great that people want to learn on their own and have more free time. I just think that more of you need to break out of your shells. Those of you who have a huge love for the Lord and want to share Him with others, I strongly believe that you should go to public school. I've learned that it's a great place to share the good news with others. So those of you who think that public school is a place of the devil and sinners, go! You need to stop being afraid of the stories you hear. It's really that simple. A lot of the stories you hear probably aren't even true, unless you're talking about a really bad school.
Now I want to say this, I do believe that public school is a place where sinners are many. Everyone on this planet is a sinner, it's just that some of us are forgiven. And yes, there are people who don't respect their elders, and don't obey the rules, (a lot of you guys don't obey rules either) but there is a reason for this. The reason is because there aren't enough Christians to tell people what they're doing is wrong and why it's wrong. people just say it's wrong because it is, but no one really know where good and evil comes from, no one knows that Jesus told them not do the things they're doing. If you've watched Time Changer you'll see that it is important for us to say that not only what they're doing is wrong, but that Jesus said that, It could really make a difference.
Wow, Skater, this is a really good post. It seems as though you have really given this subject a lot of thought, and it's so good to hear the perspective of one who was home schooled and is now in public school. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. BTW, I would love to hear what Sword Warrior thinks about this subject....hint, hint. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I have to disagree. I see a lot of good points in your arguement, but I would make soem modifications. First, I am sure you have heard someone say, when they are talking abotu non-christian friends, that even though you want to pull them toward Christ, it is VERY important that they aren't pulling you away from Christ which is a VERY REAL DANGER. Many parents chose to homeschool because they want to instill values in their children that they just couldn't if they weren't homeschooled. But this is mostly a reason for younger kids. Once you are older, it doesn't apply as much. Another reason is that you spend WAY more time with your family when you are homeschooled. Nothing against public schoolers, it's just that with riding the bus, homework, and other things it just happens that way. A third reason is the advantages that homeschoolers get. It's a lot easier to get ahead as a homeschooler. Fourth, some schools aren't good schools in an academic sense. Sometimes if schools are small and may be holding some kids back.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I do agree that if the ONLY reason you are homeshooled is because you're afraid, you need to remember that YOU ARE NO BETTER THAN THEY ARE. Period. Jesus is covering over all your sins, and if he weren't, YOU WOULD BE JUST AS SINFUL IN GOD'S SIGHT AS THEY ARE AND WOULD DESERVE NOTHING MORE THAN THEM. You have been given an amazing gift and it is your job - no, your privilege - to tell them about the gift that could be theirs, too.
I think that your last paragraph helps my point out a little. Jesus IS covering our sins IF we are truly saved. He has promised to keep us in his hands and no one will be able to snatch us from his hands. John 10:28-29 says, "and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand." You don't have to worry about people pulling you from the Lord, because if you are truly His, then he will provide a way of escape and help you endure all trials. James 1:2-3, "Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance."
ReplyDeleteIf, however the kid does start to get into bad and worldly things then you've got to test him or her, see if they're really a true believer. If they are then help them through it, Pray, and God will help you. Something you can do is tell your parents everything that goes on at school, tell them about your friends and what they're like. It's helped me.
I still spend as much time as I used to spend with my family. And if you don't have much time, then enjoy Friday nights, and Sundays with your family. Do your homework on Saturday and then spend the rest of your time with your family. I believe that it's important to spend time with family, but you should also spend time witnessing to people. Jesus said to preach His word to the ends of the earth (Mark 16:15).
Public schoolers also have advantages too. You get to spend more time with friends. It's also important to spend time with friends and not just family. Sometimes you don't want to spend time with your family, but you also want to be with friends and people your age. And when your home schooled, you don't always get a lot of time with friends. (that's what happened to me) Also you can get into more sports and stuff with public school. You also have a lot of teachers to explain things to you. Teachers that are trained in one thing and teach that one thing. Your parents have to teach you everything. Sometimes teachers can explain things to you easier than your parents, and they have the time to do it. My mom didn't have time to help me out at the moment I needed it. She had a baby to take care of, chores, and cooking.
btw, you misspelled some. :D couldn't resist.
ReplyDeleteAww, come on! It's a typo! :) Anyway, I can definitely understand your points. I guess my experience homeschooling has been different from yours in some ways. Co-ops help a lot of people with the social aspect. In many places there a lot of homeschoolers, so there are extracuricular activities for homeschoolers. I also have found that there are things where both public and homeschooled kids take part, so being homeschooled doesn't mean you can't interact with publicschoolers. One other thing that can be very helpful is an e-mail loop. Some towns have a group established where you simply send out a message asking about something or telling about something, and usually there is someone else on the loop who has an answer or is interested.
ReplyDeleteBut on the other hand, I know what you're talking about with the whole one teacher deal. It's great personal attention, but I've noticed that all of my siblings (and me) are more literature people than math/science people. And so is my mom. Of course, a co-op helps with this, too.
I guess all in all, I guess it really depends on where you live, what your family situation is like (sibling numbers, ages, etc.), and also just your opinion!
About the whole being pulled away thing, it's true that we can never lose our salvation, but we are still human, still sin, and still have a sinful nature. I used the index and found these verses:
Galations 6:1 - "Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted."
1 Corinthians 10:13 - "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." This is more like what you were saying. There will always be a way to overcome. Unfortunately, though, we don't always chose to take that way (myself included).
(This is Miguel right?) (It's Jor. Just so ya know :D)
ReplyDeleteSo are you saying that homeschoolers homeschool because they're scared of going to public school?
(I'm trying to figure out where you're coming from..before I just plunge into a debate or something.)
Anyways I very much appreciate the fact that you are encouraging us all to share the Gospel. But there are other ways to share the Gospel besides going to public school specifically for witnessing. You can go to http://www.livingwaters.com and buy tracts online and you can hand out tracts. The tracts (which you probably already know) have the Gospel message on the back of them. They're great for witnessing. You can also go to: http://wretchedradio.com Reformed baptist guy preaching the message on the radio. On wednesdays Todd (from wretched radio) (Which if you go to the site you can listen to wretched online.) goes to Georgia tech (a college..and I think Todd lives in Georgia..not sure ?) and witnesses to a lot of the students on the campus. It's great because, I learned how to witness to others from Todd. I still am. He's a really great, humble guy and you'll learn tons from him!
You can email me "Skater" @ spam_mepwease@yahoo.com and we can talk more about why we homeschoolers homescool.
Here's the link to my Dad's blog (You'll learn a lot from him.) http://brazenhusseys.com and my blog is http://adifferentkindagal.blogspot.com
Also for more information on our convictions of homeschooling go to: http://howthenshallweeducate.blogspot.com (also my dad's blog)
I see a hunger and thirst to dive deep in the knowledge and wisdom of God. And I admire that in you.
Keep up the good posts!!
Cheers!,
Jor/Lissie Darcy (Lissie Darcy is my penname in the blogging world. So. If ever you leave a comment please go by lissie. (My Dad wanted me to make one to be safe =] )
this is miguel. I'm not exactly saying that homeschoolers do that because they're scared, but I'll get back to you on this, I'm doing more research with the links you gave me.
ReplyDeleteEllow fellow.
ReplyDeleteOk sounds great :D. You can email or post a comment on me blog or something.
ttyl--L.D.
I'm going to spokane tomorrow so I'll either respond to you after I've gotten back, or while I'm there.......As long as they have fast internet up there.
ReplyDeleteAlright, sounds good.
ReplyDelete--Lissie
Ps. Sorry for the short reply I'm exhausted. (We went to Eagle island State park..we just got back an hour ago.) IT'S ONLY EIGHT AND I'M READY FOR BED!! lol
this post really was addressed to those who "think that public school is a place of the devil and sinners". I have some friends who think like that and I think people who do think like that should go to public school and try it out. My friends say they have never spent a day in public school. Not all, but some homeschoolers are just scared of public school.
ReplyDeleteAs I think about this subject more and more I realize that I may have been wrong about saying everyone should go to public school. I have been thinking about it and I now think that both homeschooling and publicschooling have their pros and cons.
After saying all that I would like to say that I still think those who listen to the "horror stories" about public school should go.
I'm finally getting back to you like I should've like...a while ago. "Like" "like"..sheesh. I sound like a girly girl. Like, like..OMG(OSH)!!
ReplyDeleteOk..now that I'm done making fun of myself =]
I'd just ask yourself a few questions, like:
Is public school teaching you to be a better Christian?
God designed "families" for a reason. The Dad is the head of the house. The mother is his helper, his partner. The parents are to teach the children all about God. They're to teach them how to love and obey Him, etc. etc. Notice the roles in the family. If God designed families, then who do you think God placed to "teach", or "educate" if you will, the children? Is it the government? Think about it. Open up your Bible and everywhere from Genesis on it talks about parents teaching their children.
In the beginning, as the population of people multiplied, Adam and Eve had to pass on all they know about God. They had to pass on the promise of the seed that will crush the serpent's head. They had to pass on all they knew about the fall of man, the garden, everything they learned from God when He had walked in the garden with them, all about creation, etc. Now it is our turn to pass on that the seed has already come. He has crushed the Serpent's head. He lived the perfect life, died, and rose again! We have it easy. We have the whole Bible, don't have a copy you can just buy one @ your local book store. Parent's are to teach their kids, and make disciples of them. That goes for educating them too, how else are they suppose to read God's word? As Christians we have a duty to train our minds and exercise our minds. Why? For a simple answer you could say we're created in God's image, and by learning it's one way you can glorify God. Another reason, we Christians need to be able to tear down strongholds. By that I mean we need to be able to break down the barriers (strongholds) of others in their thinking. Take the Atheist. The biggest barrier in his thinking is that "There is no God." The roles God has placed are the parents teach the children. It's in the beginning, can't argue with that ;D
Do you find it easier to be a Christian by going to public school?
Do you like going to a place that supports all that our economy is doing?
Was my comment really THAT long? What did I do ramble on!? Ahhhh!! Good thing I had copied my comment otherwise I might've lost zee whole thing..and you would have heard me screaming and crying...and whimpering and moaning and then the crash of the computer because I threw it. MWAHAHAHA-yeah I'm shutting up.
ReplyDeleteWe are called to be holy because GOD is holy. How is going to a public school (where kids like you and me are easily swayed into worldliness..(I'm not saying that you will be I'm just saying it's not like it's never happened before. I'm only concerned for you-as your older sister. And as your sister in Christ.) helping you to be holy?
*See 1 Peter 1:13-16 and Leviticus 11:44
I don't know where you stand when it comes to dating, or courting, and purity. But, I'm all for purity not a single kiss, holding of the hand, or nuthin until my wedding day. That being said....
In school I guarantee you that you're going to be constantly tearing your eyes out. The majority of the people that go to public school aren't Christians. I don't think that any of the girls are going to be concerned about modesty. I don't think they care if they cause you or any other guy to lust after them. The normal teenage girl wants a guy to lust after her. Why go to school? It's just a place to needlessly cause you to lust. I mean what can you do, walk around the building with a blind fold?
Those are just a couple of questions to ask yourself.
GOOD MORNING!! It's eight a.m. on a Saturday...why aren't I sleeping in!? Because I'm used to not sleeping in already just after one week of school! Haha.
Your Sister in Christ,
Lissie
Ps. I've enjoyed going back and forth with ya. You should get into debate. I think you'd be good at it. And I mean that in the best way. Debate can be used to do God's work. You can learn to apply those skills to simple 1-on-1 witnessing. I do very much admire your love for God, and your faith in Him. That tiny mustard seed CAN move mountains just as Jesus once said. =]
Ps.s. I didn't get so passionate this time. (i.e. I said "SO" passionate. I left some room in there if I did happen to get passionate.)
yeah, you do make long comments, I almost fell asleep while reading it, and I was wide awake before I started reading.
ReplyDeleteI'll answer you later on, g2g right now though.............Big sister!!!!
Lol..in other words you were bored.
ReplyDeleteYeah I need to learn how to keep it short. I JUST..I'm a DETAIL LOVER. I put in too many details when I should cut to the point and i get lost on bunny trails. It's a weekness. OH NO!! MIGUEL! I HAVE..I HAVE..MAJOR...A.D.D!!
AHHH!!
I'm scared!!
ok looking forward to it lil bro. Ttyl then!!
oh well, I don't care if you go on and on. It gives me more to think about. Anyways,
ReplyDeleteFirst I'll answer your questions. For your first question it depends on how you look at this. Public school is kind of teaching me to be a better Christian because it helps me to learn to preach better and to worship God in a public place without being ashamed.
I find it both hard and easy to be a Christian by going to a public school. It's hard because there's a lot of temptations there, but it's also easy because I can learn what I said above.
Do I like going to a place that supports all that our economy is doing? Some of the teachers there don't support it.
"The majority of the people that go to public school aren't Christians"
Which is why we need more Christians to go to public school.
"I don't think that any of the girls are going to be concerned about modesty"
At my school the main thing is really, really short shorts, and that's easy to ignore and not lust after.
I'm going to need more time to think about the rest. And btw, I am on a debate team. I find it sad that you're my sister, but you don't know a lot about me. I've also enjoyed our "little debates" not many people finish arguments and stuff with me.
Can I get back to you tomorrow or so?
ReplyDeleteI too am sad that we are brother and sister and know little about each other. Most of what I know about you is told to me from Brandon. But, he tells very little. It would be nice to get to know you better. You have a good head on your shoulders :D
I enjoy our "little debates". It challenges me, and makes me think about things. It's also a way to get to know more about you.
Ttyl Brother!
