Why is it the quiet one who wants more Bible?

This time I'm just going to respond to something one of the people at my youth group told me while we were chatting online. I copied her comment and have been thinking about it, and now I will respond to it....................here. First, here is her comment.

"just nobody knows what to think of what you've said on the forum, I guess it is really hard to voice your opinion about what we're reading, I know it is for me at least, but people just don't get it when one of the quiet kinds speaks up online about not getting enough Bible time when he's only spoke up during the lessons once or twice"

I can speak up at youth group about me not liking the summer activities we do, but I thought it might be better if I did it online.

First to clear one thing up for those of you who read my blog. I'm not the type who can speak up as much as I do over the internet. I might be able to, but I never do. I'm still working on speaking up more often. Though I must admit, it has been hard since we haven't had a Bible study for a while.

Why don't people get it when I ask for more and deeper lessons, even when I don't speak up during the lessons? Speaking up isn't what gives you the Bible time. Sure it makes it more interesting when people talk and have discussions, but that's not what gives you your Bible time. It's when the person that's teaching does the teaching. It's how deep they get into the Word, it's how much the lesson affects you and makes you think. when you're in the middle of the Church service you don't just start voicing your opinion on whatever the pastor is preaching on. You just let the Preacher preach, and the Holy Spirit move. I can sit at youth group and listen to what the youth pastor is saying and still get as much out of the lesson as those who are doing the talking. And I can do that by just listening.

That's the end of my post, sorry for it being so short. I would like to say one more thing though, I am not saying that you shouldn't ever speak up. That's important also, I'm just saying that speaking up doesn't always give you more of the Word than it does others.

  1. How true that the important thing is what we're being taught, not how much we're talking. And, stick with it in your goal of being more outgoing. It'll definitely happen someday. Look at your grandfather as an example. He was very shy in highschool, and now, well, you know him - no one's a stranger, he witnesses to every person he meets, in fact, he does most of the talking. :) lol

  2. Hey Dude,

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you on the homeschooling thing/post. My Great Grandma and my Aunt have been visiting and my great grandma just left this morning. (My Aunt left a week ago.)

Anyways, I've been pretty busy. I'm working on a post in response to your comment. But it might be a while just because school starts 31st for us. And I have a writing assignment I'm working on. And all this stuff I have to read. Sorry.

If I was in your place I'd challenge whoever the person is who challenged you. Just start asking them the "why's" in order to get what their presuppositions are on this whole matter. Because, I think it's rather odd that they don't just take the rebuke you've given them, as your brother/sister(S) in Christ should. Maybe it's pride on their part, that's why they don't want to just go "You know what I think you're right. We should be studying more in youth group." Who knows why they can't just admit to the fact that your youth group should extend the length of the studying. Which is why you should challenge them. I'm not telling you to be prideful about it, I'm merely stating in a humble manner challenge your brothers and sisters. Ask them why they don't want to be studying more in the Word.

Why shouldn't we be diving deeper in the Word?

Isn't part of loving God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength reading the Bible; because we LOVE to hear **read** what God has to say. We love to not only be hearers of the word but (pretend italic button) doers of the word. (See James 1:22-23)

Is spending less time in the Bible going to help you be a better Christian?

Do you know that the word Christian is the Greek word for Christianos, which means "The Follower of Christ"? We're created in the image of God. Therefore as Christians, we should be putting on the image of Christ. In order to do that we need to know what the image of Christ looks like, how can we know? By reading the Bible. Any Christian who bears the name of Christ, (Hem *CHRIST*IAN*) SHOULD LIVE LIKE CHRIST LIVED!

Anyways.............hehehe sorry I tend to get a tiiinny bit passoinate when writing.

Keep up the good work Brother I say Amen to more time in the word!!,

A tiny bit? you may be exaggerating there, but anyways don't worry. There's not many people like you, who will just say what they think and mean it.
